Vans... shoes not GMC.

First, let me commend Zappos.com. After an impulsive on line order at 6 p.m. one evening, the package arrived the next day by noon. Although this is a little scary, it is still mighty impressive.

Vans, the checkerboard kind.

I was never a cool surfer/skate board kid. I didn't grow up in Cali with Tony Hawk, Ryan Scheckler and pals that ooze a natural skater style. I didn't grow up any where close to a beach or halfpipe! The only skate board that I have ever touched was my brother's and since it had Snoopy Joe Cool on the deck, I don't think that counts for much. That being said, I have mad appreciation for this crew and the impact they have made on all aspects of design (good and bad).

After 20 years of longing for a pair of checkerboard Vans I finally dove in. Why I don't cave to such obsessions immediately is beyond me, for when they arrived I fell in love.

Being "older" (over the age 11) and aiming for a more "mature" version, I opted for the black on black style.

Run, now. Run to your keyboards and purchase these shoes.

I have worn them twice already, AND YES IT IS COLD IN NEW YORK, but I could not wait for warmer days. Both times young and old stared adoringly at my shoes. Those in the "know" are impressed with my nod to skate style. Those oblivious to the effort inquired as to whether they were Prada, or if they could find them at Henri Bendels. Ha.

Please people. Give in. Buy what you want. It doesn't matter that your eleven year old neighbor has the same shoes. Good style spans generations and never fades.....

Posh Menagerie... My Life!

There simply could not be a better description of me and all things me.

Smart & fashionable, check.

A place where things are kept or exhibited... or even better yet, an unusual and varied group of people, DOUBLE CHECK!

For me, I could not imagine any other way.

Style is something we are all born with, but it is the desire and ability to showcase personal style in which we are not all equal. Some say one is either "born with style or not". I disagree with these kind folks and think everyone has personal style, but it is the natural ability to showcase this "style" which is the true gift.

My mother has it, I have it. I pray my children have it.

Right brained we are. In searching for answers regarding this concept and my lack of ability to succeed in Accounting 101, I stumbled across this explanation which says it all...

How is the Right Brain / Left Brain Concept Relevant to Artists?
When you start a painting, you need be able to to visualize the final painting in your mind (right brain, working from the whole), then develop the painting, chosing the elements, matching and mixing colours, placing in the shadows and highlights (right brain, working on various things simultaneously), but at the same time be able to look critically at what you've doing (left brain, being analytical).

Amazing, right? This completely summarizes "the gift"!

My friends are mystified when I purchase some random painting at a flea market and have trouble seeing how this will fit in to my under construction dining room. All the while, I am able to clearly see the final product in my mind and make such selections at random.

Whether it is a thrift store (not the trendy kind, but the dirty grungy kind) or Bergdorf Goodman's, I can always pick that something out of a crowd that is fantastic and perfect.

I hope you have fun and enjoy this blog.

It is my collection of the Posh Menagerie that is my life and I am happy to share it with you!
